Dear Friends of Maternal,
Our Memphis community is rich in history, music, business opportunities, and generosity of spirit. However, as with any metropolitan area, there are many issues that challenge our prosperity. One of these issues is the inadequate care of our infant population, caused, in part, by poverty and illiteracy among young mothers and caregivers. Of the 15,000 infants born each year in Memphis, 12,000 are born into poverty.
The Maternal League of Memphis, a 100% volunteer organization, was founded over 75 years ago to respond to the needs of our infants and mothers. Over the years, our projects have evolved to address the current issues facing our community. Our signature project, Layettes of Love, has endured the test of time. Through area hospitals and the Shelby County Health Department, we distribute layette items that help newborns get a healthy start. It is through the generosity of our supporters that we have been able to help so many of these impoverished infants.
We invite you to participate in this year's Layettes of Love Fund Drive, appropriately centered around Mother's Day. You can help us provide essential baby items while honoring someone special in your life on Mother's Day, such as a living or deceased mother, mother‐in‐law, grandmother, aunt, teacher or friend. Shopping for Mother's Day could not be easier ‐ no wrapping, no shipping, no worries ‐ and your donation is tax deductible. Your donation of $25 for each acknowledgement will help us purchase items for Layettes of Love for needy babies in our community. We will send a beautiful acknowledgement card to each of your honorees or an acknowledgement card for a memorial and a tax receipt to you.
We hope you will invest in our 2019 Layettes of Love Fund Drive.
